Sneaky Tricks To Take The Most Attractive Instagram Selfies Ever
Now You Know: Eco Fashion Actually Can Be Chic
Wednesday, October 29, 2014
Welcome to Now You Know, InStyle Fashion News Director Eric Wilson‘s column that will help you become a fashion know-it-all in one easy read. Each week, he’ll take a look at an endearing fashion influence and why it’s relevant right now.
Green fashion has come a long way since the days when Woody Harrelson wore a tuxedo made of hemp. At a luncheon on Wednesday to recognize the winners of an eco-fashion challenge presented by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Lexus, the finalists present represented not only a change of stylishness when it comes to environmentally friendly designs, but also a change of thinking.

The designer Maria Cornejo (pictured, above), introducing the awards, said she does not consider herself the “poster child” for sustainability, “but I do try really hard. In a business like this, our creativity relies on the clients, and to make them aware that eco is also interesting, innovative and it has a place in fashion.”
Starting her business, Zero + Maria Cornejo, in New York in 1998, Cornejo sought to keep everything local. Roughly 70 percent of her collection is manufactured within a 10-block area of the city, and the designer often recycles fabrics. Her philosophy to avoid waste wherever possible is one way she is making fashion greener.

“It’s our jobs as designers to make a great product so we broaden the clientele for sustainable products,” Cornejo said.
The runners-up in the eco-challenge were Study NY and Reformation, labels that place an emphasis on ethical sourcing. And the winner, taking a $75,000 prize, was K/LLER Collection, a jewelry collection from Brooklyn designed by Katie Deguzman and Michael Miller. The two women started the collection in 2010, making jewelry, according to the program, “that fuses deconstruction with sculpture, decay with renewal, and androgyny with femininity.” As for their green credentials, those are perhaps more clear: Most of their designs are cast from 100-percent recycled metal.
“This is how you should be doing business,” Deguzman said. “It’s really not a choice.”

When you take a super amazing picture of yourself
Saturday, October 25, 2014
Are you interested in some tips on taking good selfies? Personally, I love taking selfies because I’m never satisfied with photos that other #people take and plus, they’re a lot of fun to take! The only thing is, taking a decent selfie is hard since you’re the person in front of and "behind" the camera! If you’d like to learn to take better pictures of yourself while looking totally fabulous, take note of these helpful tips on taking good selfies that you’ll be happy to show off!
1. CHECK YOURSELF OUT
Tips on taking good selfies must include giving yourself a once-over before you take the pic! Have you ever snapped a photo assuming your hair and makeup were on point only to find out that you have flyaways and smeared eyeliner? Of course you can always delete the pic and take another, but you might as well check yourself out first so you have lots of good selfies to pick from!
2. LIGHTEN UP
When you’re taking a selfie, or any photo for that matter, you have to have good lighting! You can’t show off your makeup, #hair or new outfit in bad lighting because it’s distracting and unflattering! Sure, you can strategically hide a blemish with a shadow, but #don’t choose lighting that’s too harsh or too dark. Even if you plan it that way, your vision might not translate well to the photo!
3. BACKGROUND CHECK
Another important element in taking pictures is to pick a good, clear background. We’ve all seen those photo fails where someone has taken a selfie in a dirty bedroom with piles of clothes or in the bathroom while someone’s taking care of business. Always check your surroundings so you have a clear background that lends itself well to an impromptu photo sesh. #Look for solid colored walls, textured curtains or any place without clutter.
4. BE STILL
An obvious but challenging tip to execute is to be still when you take your photos. This is especially important when you’re taking a selfie since you can’t rely on someone else with two steady hands to snap the photo. You’re usually trying to pose, make sure you’re in good lighting and trying to steady a wobbly arm all at the same #time. It takes practice, but it is possible to take clear, non-wobbly pics! Take a deep breath, try to relax and hold your pose!
5. THE MORE THE MERRIER
When it comes to taking pictures, the more you take, the more pictures you have to choose from. Don’t expect to get your best shot the first time. Even the most effortless-looking photos took #time and preparation! #Don’t be afraid to take tons of photos so you have the best pictures to choose from when you’re picking your next profile or Instagram pic!

Olivia Palermo Takes The Coat Dress Trend
Friday, October 3, 2014
Olivia Palermo is, undoubtedly, is our ultimate FROW darling. Season after season, she treats us to a flawless array of looks as she dashes from city to city to take in the new collections of her favourite designers and this Fashion Month has been no exception.
From her hometown of New York to London, Milan and now Paris, Olivia has made every single one of her outfits count, each earning her major style praise. However, her latest look which she sported to Valentino's SS15 catwalk show has to be one of her most eye-catching yet.
Never one to shy away from a sartorial challenge, OP took the coat dress trend to a whole new level. A firm fashion favourite with the likes of Kate Middleton, the coat dress is usually very formal and refined. Needless to say, Olivia put her own, very cool spin on the trend, making it look seriously fresh.
We clocked the 28-year-old writer and socialite made her way to the venue in a green coat which only just covered her modesty as she spun it as a dress. Well, who can blame her? If we had pins like that we'd be wearing blush-worthy hemlines day in, day out...

Suki Waterhouse On Her Style
Suki Waterhouse is undergoing something of a dramatic transformation when we speak on the phone. 'I'm just having my hair dyed brown,' she says nonchalantly. 'You've caught me at a very, very crazy time.'
By now, we've all seen Suki with her new chestnut brown 'do. And while we agree that going from a blonde to brunette is a bold move, this is probably one of the lesser (numerous, frequent) such 'crazy times' the 22-year-old model-come-actress has experienced.
Whether she's walking one of the biggest catwalk shows of fashion month, out partying with her close friends and fellow models Cara Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger, or filming the next big Hollywood movie (she just wrapped on the next movie in the Divergent franchise), Suki Waterhouse isn't exactly living a staid, run-of-the-mill existence.
And as well as her modelling and acting commitments – Suki's hair makeover is, in fact, 'for a film I'm about to start doing' – the 22-year-old has somehow found time to design a capsule range for Superga: the trainer brand loved by the likes of Alexa Chung, Rita Ora et al.
But wait. Hold on. How do you actually say it? 'I think it's Sup-er-guh,' Suki says. 'But you can say it how you like,' she kindly adds, making us feel slightly less ignorant for not being able to pronounce the Italian label properly.

Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Gave Their Daughter A Very Cool Name
Mila Kunis and her fiancé Ashton Kutcher welcomed their daughter and first child into their lives just this week and they've already let us in on her utterly adorable name.
After getting his young family settled back in their LA home, Ashton took to his website to let the world know that both of his girls are doing well and to officially announce his daughter's name to his loyal fans.
'Mila and I would like to welcome Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher to the world. May your life be filled with wonder, love, laughter, health, happiness, curiosity, and privacy.' How adorable is that?
We don't know about you, but we're loving the newborn's offbeat but not too out-there first name. We'd expect nothing less from this very cool couple...
If that wasn't enough, Ashton also posted a series of photographs, only to reveal that ONE of them is actually his offspring. Ok...

Reverting back to his prankster Punk'd days, Ashton has asked his followers to guess which cutie is actually theirs. Again posted on his website, Ashton said: 'Can you guess which one is ours, or does it really matter? All babies are cute.'
Check out the beyond-cute line-up for yourselves here. Can you guess which baby belongs to Mila and Ashton? Our bets are hedged on the gorgeous babe with the big eyes that's wrapped in the blue and pink stripe blanket; we reckon she's the spitting image of Mila.
No doubt Ashton will reveal all soon. But, in the meantime, we'll gladly coo over all of these little tikes.

Kendall Jenner Modelled Her Raciest Catwalk Look Yet At Balmain
Tuesday, September 30, 2014
As predicted, Kendall Jenner made her Paris Fashion Week debut on the Balmain catwalk yesterday.
And for once, the 18-year-old model was forced to break her family ban rule, as mum Kris, Kim Kardashian and brother-in-law Kanye West were all on the front row to watch the rising model star in Olivier Rousteing's raunchy spring summer 2015 show.
Taking Rihanna as inspiration – specifically that sheer mesh top the singer wore at the Balmain after party last year, which ended up getting more publicity than the show itself – the Balmain creative director wanted to celebrate women who are 'proud of their bodies and unafraid to explore sensuality and transparency' in his SS15 show.
'You have to admire the way so many of these stars turn the tables on censorship,' the designer explained in the show notes.
As such, models, Kendall included, came down the catwalk in totally transparent dresses, tops and skirts save for strips of black arranged in grid-like formations.
Then there were slinky jumpsuits, cut-away blazers and ab-flashing crop tops, all of which managed to ooze sexiness without baring too much. We can definitely see the likes of Rihanna, Kendall et al wearing this collection straight from the catwalk.
As a young, internet savvy 28-year-old, Rousteing knows exactly who to put on his catwalk – and on the front row – to get maximum publicity. Alongside Kendall and the Kardashian clan, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley made her fashion week comeback – and looked totally knockout in a cut-out scarlet jumpsuit – as well as Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss.
It was certainly the starriest show of fashion month yet, and one that's going to be hard to beat…
